Cultivating Presence

March 02, 2013 - March 03, 2013

CPPD School London N8 | £215.00 + VAT = £258.00

CPPD, one of the UK’s leading humanistic integrative counselling training schools and based in London N8 hosts this workshop Designed for experienced counsellors or psychotherapists, as well as those still in training, who would like to learn how to develop and enhance presence in their therapeutic work. This workshop is also open to other professionals for whom presence is important in their work. What makes this workshop different? Recent research and theory maintains that developing therapeutic presence enhances the well-being of the therapist, makes the practitioner more attuned and receptive, increases spontaneity and creativity in the therapy room. Trainings in any orientation focus on what to do, on how to best respond to a client in distress. This is of course very important – yet equally important is to learn how to be, how to best tune the therapists’ self so that we can be more effective. Freud spoke of 'evenly suspended attention'. Rogers spoke of 'presence'. There will be presentations relating presence to various theoretical models. We will use Zen meditation, dyad and group exercises. This will be an experiential workshop where attendees are expected to participate fully in the discussion and exercises, in order to enhance the richness of the learning both individually and for the depth of the group. Facilitator profile Manu Bazzano, UKCP, MBACP, is a qualified psychotherapist and lecturer in humanistic psychotherapy and modern European philosophy. He practices meditation since 1980 and in 2004 was ordained as a Zen Buddhist monk in the Soto and Rinzai school. Manu is also a supervisor, as well as a trainer running a number of workshops. He is a regular contributor to magazines such as Therapy Today, PCEP, Dharma, and Journal of Existential Analysis. He wrote several books including: Zen Poems (2002) Haiku for Lovers (2004), Buddha is Dead: Nietzsche and the Dawn of European Zen (2006), The Speed of Angels. His latest book is Spectre of the Stranger: towards a Phenomenology of Hospitality
